Season of Discovery Phase 3 goes live on April 4, 2024, ushering in the new PvE event, Nightmare Incursions. The event will allow players to earn items and gold, gain reputation as the Emerald Warden, and level up their characters. Unlike previous events such as Blood Moon of Stranglethorn Vale and Battle of Ashenvale, Nightmare Incursions received a lot of criticism from the Classic community, especially due to gold inflation, killing all the hype for this new phase.

Soon after the event was launched, players quickly discovered that Nightmare Incursions could bring massive gold coin rewards. u/real_klinkz wrote in a post about the event's mission rewards: "A group of 5 people, completing 10 missions, can earn about 40 to 60 grams every 20 minutes." Several other players pointed out that you can earn 40 to 60 grams per hour. You can earn over 100 coins and also earn a lot of XP.

But, in the words of Sylvanas Windrunner, "Nothing lasts forever." Gold rewards were eventually nerfed, and according to World of Warcraft Classic senior game producer Josh Greenfield, there's a " The mathematical doubling situation” needs to be addressed. However, the impact of these gold rewards remains.

The temporary boost to gold only benefits those players who were able to get into Nightmare Incursions before the nerf, leaving everyone else feeling like they missed out and feeling discouraged by the sudden gold inflation caused by the invasion. Auction house prices are currently the prime example of rising prices, showing a shift in the economy. "Just wait until you check," u/pendantcrown commented on the game's Reddit subreddit, "the same people are buying up all the crafting pads and reselling them for 3x the price."

Despite their frustration with Gold, players have also criticized Nightmare Incursions, saying it disrupts how players can engage with the world's content. "It's impossible to justify doing anything else for XP," u/Manorak87 said in a post on the WoW Classic subreddit. One of the best things that Season of Discovery has to offer in its first two phases is the cities and quest locations filled with quest players. Now, you're unlikely to see players doing anything other than running invasion missions in a loop. Despite the nerfs, WoW Sod Gold and experience are still very good.
