How to Get Your Drawing Style?

Searching for a drawing style is something that every artist wants, but having a very marked and recognizable style at the beginning of a cartoonist's career (professional or not) is very difficult. To be able to say that your works are recognized without signing them is something that must be worked on and strengthened over time.

In this post, we are going to give you some tips to help you along that path.

In addition, these tips could also be applied to other disciplines and professions (painters or photographers, for example), since we do not intend to approach it from a technical point of view, but rather as a psychological escape route to get out of our comfort zone.

1. What does it mean to have your style?

Style is our brand. It is the way to reach people and to be remembered. It is the way we have to leave our mark on others as artists. Style
If that happens to us with many of the people who see our drawings, we can clearly say that we have achieved the goal.

Tips for developing your drawing voice

You must understand that developing your style, unique, personal, and very marked, is not done from one day to another. Still, it is developed as we go through our way as artists. This persistence and insistence also need to achieve new goals. Suppose you work as an essay writer and provide paper help for students, and you want to become a famous author. In that case, you need to practice your writing skills every day, or you should learn a lot about human psychology and the mind to be an excellent psychologist.

It is impossible to find an excellent personal style suddenly and out of nowhere; we must shape it little by little. And that's the beauty of the road you travel: when you look back, the day will come when you realize that you have developed the style you were looking for.

1. Inspiration

Creativity does not come from anything. We need to be inspired and have as many references as possible.

Developing a style does not mean that we despise the art of others. It is necessary to have training and technique and, in addition, to investigate the work of other artists (even those far from our artistic branch). That is, if you are a draftsman, you can also learn from the work of painters or photographers, or even from even more distant disciplines. It's good for inspiration.

How many have other or referential authors inspired magnificent works of art? Many, right? It doesn't have to affect when it comes to giving our stamp to a creation. Being inspired and having references is not copying.

2. Message

Art is not something that only enters through the sight or the senses; it is more profound. It must have a more or less clear message. If we create drawings, or any other work, perfectly realized at a technical level, they will indeed not penetrate without notice.

The message is that impact that we produce in people, what makes them think and that they end up remembering us as artists.

It can be a positive message that transmits optimism, love, or hope, but also those drawings with negative messages make people think. The important thing is to share the feelings and emotions that interest us.

3. Do new things

Monotony is not an alternative for being inspired and giving free rein to all our creativity as artists. Delve into unfamiliar terrain. Eat new things to discover new flavors, listen to other music or watch movies of genres you don't like, and deeply analyze why you don't like them, why they don't fit you, or your personality. It is good to escape from the mainstream (what is most fashionable).

4. Don't compare yourself

Self-styling means never comparing yourself. Do things as you feel them. Only in this way will you reach yourself, precisely the most important thing for you to start developing your style in your drawings (or in other disciplines).
